Prepare to Log the Planet....
DiariesDuring the entire trek our children will be logging our movement in personal diaries. There are several reasons why we are encouraging this, most of which are fairly obvious.Diaries are memorabilia. Together with photographs, there is really no better way to recall experiences. It will be something that they will have for the rest of their lives and perhaps be able to remember how they viewed the trip through a child's eyes. Diaries become part of the trip, as will the story telling that will follow. The children's diaries will help enhance the entire experience by having them stop, think, analyze and recall experiences as they occur. Diaries will help the older children keep up their writing skills. Since during most of our travels in the Far East we will not be "over-home-schooling" them, this is a good way for them to do an activity that will keep their scholastic standards up. If we can get them to convert currencies as well, then we'll really be doing great. Diaries will give them one more activities during days of travel, waiting for transportation, or evenings in TV-less guest houses. Of course, it's not "speed," but it'll kill time just the same. |
