Travel Log Travel LogMumbai (Bombay), India May 9 2002We were terrified of Bombay (New name - Mumbai), but we overcame our fears and conquered the city. We had planned to spend only the day of our flight here, but after receiving an invitation from Adil, who we had met at Auroville, we couldn't refuse and set out to discover the greatness of the Gateway to India. With Adil at the helm, and his parents putting us up, we couldn't go wrong. Having the place to stay was a god sent and we felt comfortable enough to stay eight days. More dedails will follow, but here's a short list of places we visited: Jehangir Art Gallery Fountain Area Colava area - Gateway to India, Taj Mahal Hotel (for a breather from the heat), Colava Causeway (Shopping), eat at Kamaths. Matunga Market (Dadar area) - Capital of South India in Bombay Victoria Terminus - the main train terminal Ate Kulfi at Kulfi Center at Chawpati Beach Crawford Market Ate Falooda at Badshah Crossword Book Store at Breach Candy area - we spend almost half a day there. It's airconditioned and has a very clean bathroom Cross Roads Mall at Hajiali area (10 minute walk) Ate at Classic Fast Food at Kings Circle Dadar ate Bhel Puri, Pav Bhaji, Fried Iddly Ate at Ram Ashwar in Dadar - Matunga Market Internet on Napoo Road - Cyber Inn Saw the smash hit movie "Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham" and understood almost all of the three hours even though it was in Hindi. Strands Book Stall, PM Road near VT. Chinanlal Paper Center We are now leaving India. It's been a wild trip and we will miss this incredible, stimulating country.
